Finally I watched Scapino Ballet here, a to-do lingering for a while. Very decent place, comparable its peers in Amsterdam and the Hague. Before the show, you can either have a drink at the café or visit the artworks displayed in the theater. Seats are comfortable and even the last row provides nice visibility. Its proximity to the Central station allows you to commute easily with other cities.

The Shell case began playing in theaters around The Netherlands again in the Fall 2024. It was playing at the Rotterdam Schouwburg on a Friday evening at 8 pm. The Schouwburg is on a huge plein (plaza) that carries the same name. The plein is a huge meeting space for children and adults around the city. It has soft playful areas and a fountain as wellas benches. It is a lovely place to sit and talk or meditate before a performance. Next to the theatre are several restaurants and bars for pre performance meals, including Floor— a trendy Rotterdam spot. Inside the theatre is a bar and seating if you prefer indoors. The theatre has a zaal and two balcony levels. These levels are all above the ground floor up two flights of stairs. The building is beton. There are not a lot of distinguishing features inside. I was not happy with the information about when the performance started. On the ticket was 8 pm, but the tickets to enter and sit were not scanned until 8 pm and the performance was much later. Furthermore, we were told that the doors opened at 7:30 but that was not the case. There are parking garages around the area. It is also a 20 minute walk from Rotterdam Centraal station. If you come by bike there are plenty of spaces right in front of the building for parking.

Great venue! I saw a theater piece there a couple of months ago, and just last Friday (May 10th), I caught The Paper Kites perform (see photo). I can't find a single flaw; everything was top-notch. There are plenty of restrooms, all very clean and spacious. They offer a (free) coat check, and there's a bar for grabbing a drink after the show. The sound system impressed me – rich and lush, even though I'm no audio expert. The "Grote Zaal" has both comfortable seating and ample space for those who prefer to stand closer to the stage. The staff was friendly as well. Overall, it was a fantastic experience both times I visited.
