Rotterdam - On November 20, 2020, Rotterdam was shaken by a heart-warming support campaign for the Luxor Theater and the Rotterdam Food Bank. This special campaign brought the city together and was a great success. Not only Rotterdam residents, but also well-known artists such as Joke Bruijs and the singing character Jopie Parlevliet, contributed to making the action a triumph. The Rotterdam Balloon Company added an extra cheerful touch to the campaign by providing the balloons.
The support campaign consisted of the sale of 350 Luxor drinks packages. These packages sold out very quickly, which emphasized the success of the campaign. Friday, November 20 was a memorable day when Luxor employees personally delivered all packages to the lucky buyers. In addition, people could also collect their package at the Luxor Theater, where none other than the iconic Joke Bruijs was at the collection desk. The icing on the cake was Jopie Parlevliet, Richard Groenendijk's famous character, who took care of part of the delivery.
Due to the new corona measures, Luxor Theater could no longer sell the drink packages on performance evenings. Instead of leaving them unused, the theater decided to put the packages to good use. For every drink package sold, one also went to the Rotterdam Food Bank. Director Marc van Kaam of the Luxor Theater expressed his appreciation for the support the campaign received: "I find it heart-warming to see that there are so many people who support us and the Food Bank in these difficult times."
The Luxor employees were delighted to finally be able to roll up their sleeves again. Together with Jopie Parlevliet and Joke Bruijs, they delivered more than 250 packages to various addresses. The energy-efficient LEV cars were the vehicles of choice for this special mission.
While those who wanted to collect their drinks packages from Joke Bruijs in the new Luxor Theater, Jopie Parlevliet, the popular alter ego of Richard Groenendijk, made a stop at De Steenplaat. This is a care complex of the Humanitas Foundation, where Jopie cheered up the residents with the song "Tebbie nu op je muil?!". Jopie Parlevliet recently released this song and it stormed the charts. Of course, the residents of De Steenplaat also received their own drink boxes to enjoy.
To complete the feeling of the theater, TV Rijnmond had planned a special Luxor broadcast. The anniversary performance in honor of the 10th anniversary of the new Luxor Theater in 2011 was broadcast at 8 p.m., as well as the departure of then director Rob Wiegman. Dozens of artists performed during this special performance, including Waardenberg and De Jong, Richard Groenendijk, Brigitte Kaandorp, Gerard Cox, Joke Bruijs, Jörgen Raymann, Carel Kraayenhof and a one-off duo act by rivals Youp van 't Hek and Freek de Jonge .
The support campaign for the Luxor Theater and the Rotterdam Food Bank was a heart-warming event that showed how the community came together to support each other, even in difficult times. The Rotterdam Balloon Company added an extra festive element to the promotion by providing colorful balloons, and together they made this day unforgettable for many.
