1. Balloons are not plastic!
Plastic products are made from crude oil, chemicals and gases that corrode and harm our planet. Natural latex balloons are made from the sap of a rubber tree. Balloons made from natural latex are a 100% biodegradable, sustainable and recyclable product. Releasing helium balloons causes waste and is strongly discouraged. Ultimately, helium balloons come down again and end up in nature. And despite the fact that helium balloons are 100% biodegradable, you don't just throw a banana peel on the street.
The video below shows how latex balloons are made from planting the rubber tree to a latex balloon.
2. Balloons are a natural product!
- Latex is tapped from the rubber tree in a way that does not harm the tree.
- Every tree - and there are billions of them - consumes CO2, reducing global warming.
- When latex is processed, every part of the product is used.
- When the rubber tree no longer produces latex, the tree is turned into lumber.
- Every year, mature trees are tapped, old trees are harvested, new trees are planted and CO2 is consumed.
3. Latex balloons are 100% biodegradable!
All our latex balloons are made from the sap of a rubber tree and are therefore 100% biodegradable. The biodegradation of a latex balloon takes as long as that of an oak leaf.
4. Use balloons without chemical additives!
We only use the best quality balloons from the Sempertex brand. Unlike other - often cheaper - brands, Sempertex does not use chemical additives to maintain the flexibility of the balloon.
5. Dispose of balloons in an environmentally responsible manner after use!
After the event, we will collect the balloons from you and dispose of them in an environmentally responsible manner. The latex balloons are punctured and thrown into the PMD or residual waste.
6. Reuse of frames and supports
Any frames and supports on which the balloons are attached are never thrown away after use, but we collect them from the customer and are always reused at the next event.
7. Do not use helium in balloon decorations outside!
We use helium balloons as little as possible in our outdoor balloon decorations. This way we prevent balloons from accidentally coming loose that we can no longer reach and cannot clean up and dispose of ourselves.
8. Use as few foil balloons as possible!
Foil balloons are those balloons that you often encounter in hospitals or at the airport. They are made of zer thin plastic with a thin foil layer and are not biodegradable. That is also the reason why we use foil balloons as little as possible in our balloon decorations. There is often an excellent alternative by using natural latex balloons.
9. Always attach a balloon weight to a foil balloon!
And if, in an extremely exceptional case, we do use a helium-filled foil balloon outside, we always attach a weight to it to prevent it from accidentally blowing away.
10. Member of several trade organizations!
The Rotterdam Balloon Company and its suppliers are members of several industry organizations such as the European Balloon & Party Council (EBPC), the Pro Environment Balloon Alliance (PEBA) and the Green Balloons to always stay informed of the impact of balloons on the environment
