Balloon company gets the green light from the municipality of Rotterdam for Feyenoord celebration

Balloon decorators Marcel and Patricia Vermeer from the Rotterdam Balloon Company have been working for more than a decade on creating spectacular balloon designs for various events, including for well-known clients such as Feyenoord and the municipality of Rotterdam. It all started in 2010, when they installed their first balloon arch for Heineken at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam.

Since then, they have provided many events with balloons at the most beautiful locations in the Netherlands. However, their hearts go out to Rotterdam and Feyenoord in particular. Every time they walk past Rotterdam City Hall, they talk about how great it would be to place the balloons on the steps to celebrate Feyenoord.

"It would be a icing on the cake for both of us, because we have both Feyenoord and Rotterdam in our hearts," said Marcel Vermeer. "It would be an absolute highlight of our career."

If Feyenoord wins at Ajax we will become champions

After Feyenoord's victory over Ajax on March 19, 2023, the balloon artists immediately contacted the municipality of Rotterdam to express their wish. However, after internal consultation, the municipality indicated that they no longer wanted to use balloons at major events due to the environment. But the balloon artists emphasized that their balloons are of the very best quality and are made of 100% biodegradable natural latex and certainly not plastic. They would personally ensure that all balloons were disposed of in a responsible manner after the ceremony. The municipality asked to put this on paper, so that they could include it in the next meeting.

Shortly afterwards it was reported that there was little chance that the municipality of Rotterdam would use balloons to celebrate Feyenoord. But three weeks before the possible championship, the municipality of Rotterdam and Feyenoord still contacted the balloon company to discuss the possibilities. And with success, the balloons will still appear on the balcony.

For the balloon artists this is the icing on the cake. After years of dreaming and lobbying, they are finally allowed to place balloons on the balcony of the town hall during Feyenoord's ceremony. A highlight in their career and a tribute to their great love for Feyenoord and Rotterdam.

Feyenoord is champion of the Netherlands

Rotterdam, May 14, 2023 - Today it can finally happen: Feyenoord can become champions! First we go to the Atlanta Hotel to provide balloons for the championship party of the Feyenoord Business Club. Then to Stadhuisplein to watch the match and see if they have to work on the balcony the next morning.

To leave nothing to chance, Marcel and Patricia will sleep in the Bilderberg Parkhotel tonight. They must report to City Hall at 7 a.m. and after a thorough security check they will be taken to the citizens' hall, where they will blow the 16-meter-long, green and white balloon garland and hang it on the balcony.
