At the Balloon Printing Company we have the option to print two types of balloons with a photo: Latex balloons and foil balloons. Each type of balloon requires a unique printing technique, which leads to various options for personalizing these balloons with a photo. Before we delve deeper into the options for printing a photo on a balloon, it is important to understand the difference between latex balloons and foil balloons.

The difference between latex and foil balloons

Latex balloons are those balloons made of natural rubber (100% biodegradable), which you often see alone in such a stand at McDonalds, for example. They have a diameter of approximately 30 centimeters measured from top to bottom. If you fill these balloons with air, they can stay hard for weeks, but you will then have to hang them up or put them down. If you fill these balloons with helium, they will float. They then float for about 12 to 14 hours and then slowly sink to the ground. You can possibly let these balloons float for a few days longer by treating them with Hi-Float. Hi-Float is a kind of gel that you inject into the latex balloon. Massaging the balloon creates a protective layer in the balloon so that the helium stays in the balloon longer and the balloon can therefore float longer.

Foil balloons are those metal-like balloons that are made of plastic with a very thin layer of aluminum (non-biodegradable). These balloons are often seen in hospitals and can also have many different shapes. Here too, if you fill these balloons with air, you will have to hang them or put them down somewhere. If you fill foil balloons with helium, they will float and because the material of a foil balloon is much less porous than that of a latex balloon, a foil balloon can float for a number of days to weeks. You can also refill foil balloons whenever they become soft, so you can enjoy them for months.

The difference between screen printing and digital printing

Latex balloons can only be made using... can be screen printed. For screen printing we use a screen frame. For each color we apply the print to your balloon using: screen frame. The number of screen frames we have to make depends on the number of colors in your photo. With screen printing it is quite possible to print individual elements on your balloon, but a gradient in colors is not possible.

Foil balloons can only be... can be printed digitally. With digital printing we can print a full-color image (a color photo). printing an inkjet printer directly onto a foil balloon.

Minimum purchase

The minimum order quantity for printing latex balloons with a photo in 1 color is 25 pieces. So we make 1 screen frame with which we print 25 latex balloons. Because we use a foil balloon directly can print on an inkjet printer, we can easily do this per piece. So for foil balloons with a color photo, there is no minimum order quantity.

A black and white photo is not one color!

A black and white photo is not one color. A black and white photo still contains color gradients and multiple shades of gray. We can only print a black and white photo on a foil balloon and not on a latex balloon.

Conclusion

Of course, the most important argument is how you want the image printed. Does it really have to be in full color or can it also be in 1 color?

If you need several balloons to decorate a room, choose latex balloons. The photo may be in 1 color, but it is a lot cheaper than having all the foil balloons printed.
